The foundation is active in emergency relief efforts worldwide, engaging not just in immediate aid, but also particularly in the support of sustainable reconstruction projects that are implemented in the areas affected together with the Bayer country companies and partner organizations in the disaster region. The Bayer Group provides both funding and expertise to support relief efforts.

To help restore normal schooling at a college in the city of Dujiangyan, the Bayer Cares Foundation donated 20 standard classrooms, 50 houses and a clinic. Dujiangyan is one of the regions most heavily damaged in light of the devastation caused by the earthquake in China in mid-May 2008. The Sichuan Technology and Business College is one of the three most heavily damaged colleges in Sichuan province. Classes started on time for the new semester on September 1, 2008 thanks to the new classrooms provided by the Bayer Cares Foundation.

The donation by the Bayer Cares Foundation is valued around EUR 825,000. Teams across the Bayer Group worked together to provide expertise, products and solutions. The total construction area exceeds 2,000 square meter. Furthermore the company also provided all necessary equipment for the completion and immediate functioning of the contrucstions, such as whiteboards, beds, and medicines.

In addition to the immeadiate aid in mid-May to earthquake-relief - including medical supplies and cash donations by the employees and the company - the total donation sums up to more than EUR 2.2 million.
