The Hansen Family Award
For natural scientist and certified management assistant Dr. Kurt Hansen (1910 – 2002), support for research in the fields of science and medicine were of central importance. Hansen, who served as Chairman of the Board of Management of Bayer AG from 1962 to 1974, was chiefly responsible for the restructuring of the Bayer Group and succeeded in further expanding the company’s international position, particularly outside of Europe.
In 1999 he established the € 75,000 Hansen Family Award, which since 2000 has been presented every two years to young, medically oriented scientists and medical experts in Germany in alternation with the Otto Bayer Award. The Hansen Family Award recognizes groundbreaking research in innovative scientific and medical fields, and particularly projects dedicated to the exploration of new therapeutic approaches in cardiology, oncology and gynecology.
