Inclusion Through Sports

Involving People with Handicaps

Those that have a disability or chronic illness often benefit from playing sports. That is why the Herbert Grünewald Foundation supports innovative projects that give handicapped people an improved sense of belonging and social involvement through sports.

The foundation supports various Rollikids projects.

There are many opportunities to get involved in sports for handicapped persons: It could be an event organized especially for athletes with handicaps, or an offer for children and youth with disabilities or a project that brings people with and without handicaps together. These projects and events often require special equipment or special training for the coaches and therapists involved. Named after the former Bayer CEO, the Herbert Grünewald Foundation has been supporting such initiatives since 1981 and awards funds of € 70,000 annually.

Non-profit institutions in North Rhine-Westphalia or areas near Bayer sites can apply for this funding. Projects using new approaches to promote the combination of athletes with and without handicap have particularly good prospects for receiving funding. The funds requested should not exceed € 5,000.
