Boosting Pioneering Research

Advances in fundamental and industrial research are the assets of the future for Germany as a base for industry. For this reason, the Bayer Science & Education Foundation rewards every two years outstanding research achievements with three scientific awards.

The Otto Bayer Award honors researchers who have made pioneering contributions in innovative areas in chemistry and biochemistry, while the Hansen Family Award is given for outstanding achievements in the fields of medical science. Both are among the most prestigious science awards within the German-speaking world and each of them comes with a prize of EUR 75,000.

In 2008 an international award was added with a prize money of €50,000 with the aim to promote concrete scientific and technical solutions for long-term climate protection and dealing with climate change: the Bayer Climate Award.

Two further international awards for upcoming young scientists complement the program in order to promote outstanding talent at an early career-stage: the Early Excellence in Science Award (since 2009) and the Thrombosis Research Award (since 2011).

All five Bayer awards are based on the premise that someone who stands head and shoulders above the rest deserves recognition: The foundation aims to honor groundbreaking achievements in science, promote extraordinary talent and foster a wider acceptance for pioneering technologies in society.
